Bottled water produces risks to the environment with bottles piling up in landfills.  The oil used to make the bottles could be used towards other products.  Tap water, its competitor, is equally as clean and tastes no different.  Money can be better spent on improving other countries and on reusable bottles.  The average consumer does not need to spend thousands of dollars on bottled water when tap water is abundant.

Yet, bottled water also supports developing countries when American demand is high.  Bottled water comes conveniently in many vending machines, stores, and small stands throughout the nation.  Also, the bottles are recyclable and don’t contribute to waste when they are recycled.

Do the benefits of bottled water outweigh the costs?  Which one should Americans use and why?
