Parenting is a complex and difficult set of tasks that has affected everyone ever born.  There are countless methods, ideals, strategies, and concerns when raising a child.  Some parents use a hands-off approach and let the child grow up on their own.  They let their children run out and play, manage their own difficulties, let them get a job, and offer only the most important advice.  Some of these parents choose to let their children do this while others are forced to due to needing a two income household or being a single parent.

There are other parents who try to stay close to their children and talk with them about everything in their day.  They schedule playdates, supervise activities, and try to be not only parents but friends as well.  These parents believe a close relationship to their children will make it easier to guide them when they grow older.

What traits and actions define a parent a good parent?  How can you tell?
